How it all started
The Studio began with owner and instructor Cat Plesko teaching classes at a local community center called The Art League of Jacksonville. As popularity of the classes grew, more wheels were added and more classes offered. Workshops include Raku fires, Agateware, and more.
Philosophy
Scratch Studio aims to provide a place for creating, where students are encouraged to expand their craft and work together as a community to share knowledge and skills.
About the Owner
Cat Plesko, owner of Scratch Studio and lead instructor, received her BFA in Pottery from Jacksonville University in 2015. She has taught community classes for over 4 years and serves as an adjunct professor in Ceramics at Jacksonville University. She also participates in many local markets for artists and offers private classes and lessons. Cat started her throwing career in high school and has been making pottery ever since!
Motivated in her field, Cat, enjoyed an Art internship that allowed her to work with the division of Public Art at the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville. It was there that she took part in the community outreach program, artistic professional development, and work with the administration department. Cat helped coordinate maintenance, conservation strategies, and manage collections for Public Art within Jacksonville.
As a career, Cat is considered a functional artist who also enjoys creating sculptural pieces using the potters wheel.
Cat’s work has been on exhibit at The Cummer Museum of Art in Jacksonville, Jacksonville University, Zoo Lights here at our local zoo, and Eastern Washington University
