LEARN HOW TO THROW: Beginners pottery

Designated for beginners who have never thrown or for those who need more guidance with throwing. In this class, the students will learn ceramic terminology and how to prepare their clay with wedging, throw basic forms, trim their wheel thrown pieces, and glaze for a nice finish. Grab a friend and learn how to make pottery together! Be prepared to get a little dirty and to have fun! These classes are for ages 14+

$350 per session
Sessions is 5 weeks, meeting once a week for 2.5 hours a day & includes all materials (clay, firing costs, & glazes) + 1 open studio session

 

Intermediate pottery classes:

Designated for those who have had experience on the potter’s wheel to explore the never-ending challenges and discoveries of working in clay. Students will work with their instructor to better understand different throwing techniques. Demos will be given throughout class. These classes are for ages 18+

The focus will be advanced projects, such as throwing with larger amounts of clay, attaching section pots, and collaring for bottles and closed forms. The requirement for this class is to be have at least taken one previous beginners classes or have some background with pottery. Please be comfortable at the wheel with centering at least two pounds of clay and pulling walls prior to booking.

$350 per session
Sessions is 4 weeks meeting once a week for 2.5 hours a day & includes all materials + 1 open studio session. Glazing will not be taught in this class.

 

Hand-building Classes:

This class is open to all ceramic experience levels, from beginner to advanced. Students will learn to create functional and sculptural pieces using several different techniques including pinch pots, coil building, soft slab construction, and slump and press molds. Experimentation with color, texture, and pattern is highly encouraged and will be introduced along the way. Basic ceramic terminology and glazing techniques will also be covered in this class.

Hand-building is a great way to improve your work if you are an adament wheel thrower or plan to learn the wheel in the future! Slowing down to gain a more in depth understanding of the fundamental properties of clay as a medium will allow you to see the improvment in the quality of your finished pieces.

Sip & Spin: “TRY IT”

This is a great class for the curious, a night out with a friend, datenight with a loved one, or just want to check pottery off the bucket list! Are you too busy to take a 5 week session? This one time pottery night class is for you! NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED. 

This class is an optional BYOB or drink of your choosing.

Grab a friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, husband, family member or even best friend and come take a pottery class. All supplies will be provided for you! This class includes up to 5lbs of clay per a person. (this means you can make up to 5 pieces in one night!) Pieces can be picked up after 3-4 weeks of completing your class. Individuals will select a color and will be contacted when piece is finished! $99 per person.

Class has an age limit of 14+. This is a class that alcohol is permitted. You must be 21+ in order to drink during the class.

**For Private events please contact us to arrange a time and date. Private events required a minimum 10 people.

 

ONE-ON-ONE LESSONS

The Studio offers private lessons if you prefer a 1-on-1 experience as opposed to a classroom setting. We are currently booking per individual requests. Please fill out form below & we will be in touch to book.

There is flexibilty for the lessons to be tailored to meet your needs. You can set the focus and intention with your instructor for what you would like to learn. Family or friends can join too with a max of 2 per a lesson.

We cannot teach an adult and a child younger than 13 at the same appointment.

$130 for 1 hr with a free open studio pass to glaze included with your lesson. This will be 2 separate appointments.

***We offer 1-on-1 lessons for children over the age of 5. Adults must be present during session for children between the ages of 5-10.***

 

BECOMING A STUDIO MEMBER

Have you taken a pottery class and want to continue your skill? Have been a potter for sometime now and want to use the beautiful studio to make with others? In order to becoming a member you must have a background of pottery. There are no instructors to teach during open studio. By becoming a member you will have access to a large shelf, all tools will be made available to you, and unlimited firings for items made inside the studio.

Members are able to use the studio at anytime during regular business hours. Sundays are dedicated to only members.

Open Studio days for Sunday need to be signed up by 5pm the Saturday before.

Memberships include:

  • Unlimited Kiln firings in the studio

  • Large shelf

  • Access to 25 pottery wheels (Skutt, Whispers, Brent & Pacifica)

  • Access to clay reclaim program

  • Access to all studio glazes & tools

Requirements:

  • Clay is not included. We sell Rae’s smooth stoneware as our studio clay body that you can purchase for $1.25 per pound and exchange using our reclaim program. You are welcome to work with your own clay body and reclaim it yourself.

  • Prior experience or have taken a beginners class at JPS

Memberships are $230 per a month. It is a subscription that activates the day of purchase and renews the same day every consecutive month. Memberships are cancellable at any time and remain valid until the end of the last month purchased.

 

OPEN STUDIO

Open Studio is designated for those who are currently enrolled in our 5-week Beginner’s Course, those who want to continue making after completing classes, or for members.

Signing up for open studio time for nonmembers is $40 for 2 hours. During open studio you purchase your own clay. We recommend using our studio clay body and reclaim program. We have courtesy open studio shelves where you can store your in progress work on a board. The cost of firing is not included in the cost of booking. It is $2 per pound of clay for firing - bisque firing and glaze firing are separate charges.


OUTSIDE KILN FIRING MEMBERSHIPS

The Studio also offers firing for items made outside of the studio. Our firing membership is a charge of $150/month, which covers 30 days of unlimited firings. One time firings are $2.00 per lb of work for bisque and glaze firing.
